From all of us at the Truckee Police Department, we want to wish you a safe and happy holiday. As the year comes to a close and a new one begins, make it a point to drive safely — and drive sober — every day.

Have a Plan Whether You’re Driving, Riding or Hosting. If you’re celebrating and drinking this holiday season, always remember to plan ahead with a sober driver to take you home. If you’re the designated driver, it’s important to take the role seriously.

Here are some more safety tips:
Never drink and drive.
Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if that person has been drinking.
If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure everyone has a sober ride home.
Call 911 if you see a drunk driver.
Always wear your seat belt.

TART CONNECT HAS EXTENDED THEIR HOLIDAY HOURS:
TART Connect is operating daily from 6:30am till 1:30am through New Year’s Eve, serving all areas within Truckee town limits. Additional vehicles have also been added to the fleet this winter to help minimize wait times.

The TART Connect app is available on both iOS and Android. Alternatively, rides can be reserved by calling 530-553-0653.

We recently held a Swearing-In Ceremony, welcoming and honoring some incredible members of our Truckee Police Department family.

We officially welcomed Emergency Services Manager James Blattler, Police Records Technician Jeanine Kelly, Community Service Officer Jennifer Jackson, and VIPS member Jake McCormick. Police Officers KC Myers and Jason Tessler also took their oaths to protect and serve our community with integrity and dedication.

We celebrated the remarkable career of Bob Womack, who recently retired as our Emergency Services Manager after 35 years in law enforcement—23 of those years proudly serving Truckee PD.

🌟 Congratulations to our 2023 Volunteer, Employee, and Officer of the Year award winners:

👏 Exceptional Achievements!
Officer Daniel Moss was nominated for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award for his commitment to keeping our roads safe.
Detective Brandon Mosher, Sergeant Brett Heath, and Officer Robert Yarbrough received the Community Service Award for their outstanding investigation of an online child solicitation case, protecting one of our most vulnerable community members.
Detective Mosher also received the FBI’s prestigious “Exceptional Public Service Award,” a rare honor signed by the FBI Director in Washington, D.C. His exemplary interrogation work is now a national training tool for new FBI agents.

Join us in celebrating these inspiring individuals who go above and beyond for our community every day. We are so proud to have them on our team! 💙💛

Picture this: you’re late for work, it’s freezing, and your car is buried under a thick layer of snow and ice from last night’s storm. You try brushing it off, but it’s stuck solid. You scrape just enough to see out the front, jump in, and hit the road.

This rushed routine isn’t just frustrating—it’s dangerous and illegal.

Leaving snow and ice on your car drastically limits your visibility, putting you and others at risk. Vehicles with only a small scraped area on the windshield create hazards for drivers, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles alike.

👉 Take a few extra minutes to do it right:
• Clear all windows and mirrors.
• Remove snow from the roof, hood, and headlights.

Winter is here, even without snow on the ground, and it’s time to stay mindful of safety as we keep warm this season. Home fires are more common during winter, but you can take steps to protect yourself and your family. @fema shares these essential tips to help prevent fires and other hazards:
👉 Keep anything flammable at least 3 feet away from heating equipment, and never use your oven as a heat source.
👉 Always stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or broiling food.
👉 Turn off space heaters whenever you leave the room or go to bed.
👉 Ensure all vents are free of snow and ice so carbon monoxide can safely vent outside.
👉 Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home, and test them regularly.
👉 Schedule annual servicing of your furnace, heating system, and chimney with a qualified professional.
