In the past several months, the Truckee Police Dep

In the past several months, the Truckee Police Department has received numerous reports of overnight vehicle burglaries and several stolen vehicles out of various apartment complexes throughout town. These acts resulted in theft of property along with victim's credit cards having been used fraudulently at retail locations within the surrounding region.

After an extensive investigation, Police Detectives identified and arrested two male juveniles responsible for the crimes. The juveniles,14 and 16 from Truckee, were arrested on felony charges and are currently pending court proceedings. TPD would like to remind our community to always lock your vehicles and to never leave keys, purses, wallets, or any other valuables unattended inside and in plain view.

One of the many duties Truckee PD performs for our community is the active monitoring of all registered sex offenders living within our area. Last month, Truckee Police Officers, with the assistance of Investigators from the @nevadacountydistrictattorney, conducted random compliance checks for all sex offenders residing within the Town of Truckee.

During these checks, law enforcement confirms all registration information as being true and accurate, such as location of residence, vehicles owned, current employer information, etc. By doing this, your police department is taking the appropriate steps needed to ensure all sex offenders are abiding by their court mandated terms, and in-turn, making our community safer as a result.

We are happy to report that by the end of the operation all offenders were found to be in full compliance with their terms.

We’ve all done it. You're rushing out the door, it’s 20°, and your car looks like it lost a fight with a snow machine. You scrape a tiny little “I can technically see” hole in the windshield, jump in, and convince yourself you’ll be fine.

Spoiler alert: It’s dangerous… and yep, illegal too.

Take a few extra minutes to clear it all:
• Windshield, rear window, all side windows
• Mirrors
• Roof, hood, headlights, and taillights
• Fully defrost before you leave

A fully cleared car keeps you safe, keeps others safe, and keeps you from explaining to an officer why your windshield looked like a frosted donut.

Truckee Officers Recover Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Driver.

In the early morning hours of November 26, 2025, the Truckee Police Department was notified by the Grass Valley Police Department that a stolen vehicle out of Red Bluff had been seen in Grass Valley. During their investigation, officers believed the stolen vehicle might be headed towards Truckee on I-80.

Our patrol officers set up, watched for anything suspicious…and quickly spotted a truck towing the stolen vehicle.

Yes. Towing it. Like a mobile display of bad decisions.

Officers conducted a stop, and the driver was promptly arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle. During a search that followed the arrest, officers also found suspected narcotics because apparently one bad decision wasn’t enough. He was booked into jail on the charges.

The passenger had an out-of-county warrant and was cited and released at the scene.

Friendly reminder:
If you’re planning on committing crimes, maybe don’t tow them behind you. Makes our job way too easy. 😄

Truckee’s Winter Parking Ban is in effect — no parking on Town roads or public right-of-ways from November 1 through April 30.
This allows our Public Works crews to perform snow removal and ice control safely and efficiently, keeping roads clear for everyone.

Earlier this month, The Truckee Police Department

Earlier this month, The Truckee Police Department received a report of a missing person, Gordon Simons, 62 of Truckee, after family members had not been able to contact him. Last week, with the assistance of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR), @nevada_county_sheriff_sar, a search was conducted at a popular hiking location near the missing person’s residence. Upon deployment, SAR K9 Teams soon discovered human remains in the area of Highway 89 South near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

Investigators from our department, in coordination with a Sheriff’s Office Deputy Coroner, processed the scene for several days and found no immediate indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The remains of the decedent were then turned over to the Sheriff’s Office, who serves as the County Coroner. The investigation is still on-going, to include the ultimate determination of cause of death.

The timing of this release coincides with the positive confirmation of the deceased being Mr. Simons, as well as notification having been made to next of kin. The Truckee Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Simons.
