As we wrap up the year and welcome a new one, please make safe driving and sober driving a priority every day.

🎉 Heading out to celebrate? Make a plan before the celebrations begin.
If you’ll be drinking, using cannabis, or other substances, arrange a sober ride home ahead of time. Impairment is impairment, and it affects your ability to drive safely. Please take it seriously and help keep our roads safe.

🚗 Holiday Safety Reminders:
• Never drive under the influence, regardless of the substance.
• Don’t let friends or family drive impaired.
• If you’re hosting, ensure every guest has a safe, sober way home.
• Call 911 if you see a suspected impaired driver.
• Always wear your seat belt, every trip, every time.

Since December 17th, the Truckee Police Department

Since December 17th, the Truckee Police Department has been investigating a series of at least six commercial burglaries. Multiple businesses along Donner Pass Road between Highway 89 South and Coldstream Road were forcibly entered, with doors and locks damaged during the break-ins. Several items of various values were stolen.

After extensive surveillance and targeted patrol efforts, a suspect we believed to be responsible for all of the burglaries was arrested this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. 29 year old Jose Martin Zarate-Enriquez was booked into Nevada County Jail for burglary, felony vandalism, and an outstanding arrest warrant for an unrelated criminal charge.

The temperature has dipped, and while warming up your car may seem like a great idea, remember... it only takes a moment for your vehicle to become a quick target for theft.

Warm-up car thefts increase during cold weather, and many incidents happen right outside people’s homes. A running, unattended vehicle is an easy opportunity.

Protect yourself and your property:
Never leave your car unlocked and running, even for “just a minute.”
Consider using an automatic starter that keeps your car locked while it warms up.
Keep valuables out of sight or stored in the trunk.
Always lock your car and roll up the windows, even at home.

The Truckee Police Department is seeking public as

The Truckee Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect in connection with the discharge of a firearm into a home.

The incident occurred within a residential area on Deerfield Drive and resulted in the death of a family dog. The person in the photo is believed to be responsible for the crime. Individuals who have previously interacted with this unidentified suspect have described him as a Hispanic male who is approximately 18-20 years old, about 5’7” tall and 170 pounds, having a light complexion, short black hair, and a mustache. The subject was captured on video in the area on Tuesday 12/2, and again when the crime occurred on Tuesday 12/9. On both dates the subject appeared to be wearing the same clothing depicted in the photograph and carrying a box believed to have been containing a firearm.

Winter is almost here—let’s stay warm and safe.

Mugz is all about the cozy life this time of year, but even he knows winter brings an increase in home fire risks.

So before he settles back in for another nap by the fire, he’s sharing a few important reminders:
👉 Keep flammables 3 feet away from heat sources.
👉 Don’t use your oven for heating.
👉 Never leave cooking food unattended.
👉 Turn off space heaters before bed or leaving the room.
👉 Clear exterior vents of snow and ice.
👉 Install and test CO detectors.
👉 Get yearly inspections for your furnace and chimney.

In the past several months, the Truckee Police Dep

In the past several months, the Truckee Police Department has received numerous reports of overnight vehicle burglaries and several stolen vehicles out of various apartment complexes throughout town. These acts resulted in theft of property along with victim's credit cards having been used fraudulently at retail locations within the surrounding region.

After an extensive investigation, Police Detectives identified and arrested two male juveniles responsible for the crimes. The juveniles,14 and 16 from Truckee, were arrested on felony charges and are currently pending court proceedings. TPD would like to remind our community to always lock your vehicles and to never leave keys, purses, wallets, or any other valuables unattended inside and in plain view.
