Truckee’s trails are meant to be shared — by walkers, runners, bikers, and furry companions. Here’s how we can all help keep them safe and welcoming:

✅ Pick Up After Pets — Don’t forget the bag! Dispose of waste properly to keep trails clean.

✅ Leash & Control Dogs — Keep pets close and under control at all times.

✅ Share the Trail — Be courteous. Whether walking or biking, give space, communicate when passing, and yield when needed.

🚴 Speed Limit = 15 MPH — Slow down and ride with care, especially around blind corners and crowded areas.

Together, we can make every trail outing safe, respectful, and enjoyable. 🌲

Every year, our Community Animal Services Officers

Every year, our Community Animal Services Officers respond to emergency calls about pets left in hot cars. These situations are not only dangerous, they can be deadly.

☀️ Even with the windows cracked, a parked car can reach life-threatening temperatures in just minutes.

🐾 When in doubt, leave your pet at home.
👀 See a pet left in a hot car? Don’t wait to report it. Your call could save a life. 🐶💙

The Truckee Police Department wants to ensure ever

The Truckee Police Department wants to ensure every resident knows: the Hi-Lo siren means evacuate immediately.

Both Truckee Police and Truckee Fire Protection District vehicles are equipped with special Hi-Lo sirens — a distinct sound, different from traditional emergency sirens. These will only be used to signal an immediate evacuation order.

If you hear the Hi-Lo siren:
• Grab your pets and go-bags
• Leave the area without delay
• Stay tuned to emergency alerts for updates and instructions

Depending on conditions, first responders may not be able to reach everyone with the Hi-Lo siren. Always use your best judgment. If you feel unsafe, don’t wait — leave early and activate your household’s evacuation plan.

National Night Out is right around the corner! Come join local first responders and local businesses for a family fun event for all ages!

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

DATE: August 5, 2025

TIME: 5 pm to 7 pm

🚨 MISSING PERSON – TRUCKEE 🚨

The Truckee Police Department is searching for 87-year-old Steven Lang, who is believed to have walked away from his residence on Royal Crest Drive between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM today in the Glenshire subdivision. He is approximately 5’4” to 5’6”, 160 pounds, and has limited mobility. Steven suffers from dementia/Alzheimer’s. He was last seen wearing blue slacks, a green “Owl’s Head” t-shirt, and possibly a green sweatshirt.

If you have seen Steven or have any information, please call 530-550-2320 immediately.

🚨 Brake for the Lake! 🚨

Donner Lake is one of Truckee’s most treasured gems. It’s an area shared by residents, visitors, pedestrians, cyclists, families, and pets. As we enter the peak summer season, the Truckee Police Department wants you to: Brake for the Lake and slow down around Donner Lake.

Why should you Brake for the Lake?
• This is high pedestrian and bike traffic along the lake roadway.
• There are narrow roadways with limited shoulder space.
• There are many driveways and public access points where people cross and park.
• Children, pets, and wildlife are often near or in the roadway.

What can you do to Brake for the Lake?
✔️ SLOW DOWN when driving around Donner Lake especially around pedestrians and bicyclists.
✔️ OBEY POSTED SPEED LIMITS and yield to people crossing the road.
✔️ WATCH FOR BICYCLES and give them plenty of room when passing.
✔️ STAY ALERT because distractions, even brief ones, can have serious consequences.
✔️ DO NOT PARK IN THE BIKE LANE because it is not only illegal but causes extreme hazards for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Donner Lake is a beautiful community space, and everyone deserves to enjoy it safely. Whether you live here or are just visiting, please drive with care and respect.
