The patrol boat can be found on Donner Lake all summer, and during almost any emergency on the water 365 days a year. Primary violations enforced are unsafe boating and unsafe towing (water skis and tubes). The patrol boat is also used as a diving platform for TPD’s Scuba Dive and Rescue team that operates in tandem with the Truckee Fire Department Dive Team.
Truckee Police and Truckee Fire are part of the a regional dive team that was formed in 2003. The team regularly trains in local lakes and waterways. Typically, the teams are called upon to recover drowning victims or locate submerged evidence. All team members are rated minimally as Rescue Divers and can perform operations in any water condition to a maximum depth of 100′ actual in any of our high-altitude lakes.
TPD’s dive team is equipped with Diving Unlimited International dry suits and BCDs, Sherwood Blizzard regulators, Bio-Fins, and all necessary equipment. In 2010 the dive team acquired Ocean Technology Systems (OTS) Guardian full face communication masks. These masks protect our divers’ faces from contaminated water, and enable clear communications with each other and the surface for miles if necessary. Generous grants from the California Department of Boating and Waterways provide 100% financing for all dive team equipment and maintenance.
