As Spring weather arrives in Truckee, it’s essential to prioritize bike and pedestrian safety while enjoying our scenic trails. The Town Council recently approved municipal code 10.21.050, which outlines the permitted use of bicycles and alternative transportation devices on trails. Notably, the speed limit for any device, including e-bikes, on trails is 15 miles per hour. Riders should also be mindful of trail conditions, weather, crossings, and other trail users. It’s crucial to practice good trail etiquette by being aware and respectful of others sharing the space. Please report trail issues using our Trail Incident Reporting Tool found here.  If you notice any dangerous activity on the trails, please report it to our Traffic Division at 530-550-2320. Enjoy the outdoors and stay safe!

It’s also boat inspection season at the Truckee Police Department. All motorized vessels launching on Donner Lake must complete the self-inspection process this year. Kayaks and paddleboards without motors are exempt from inspections. The self-inspection form, available on our website (www.truckeepolice.gov), can be completed and dropped off at the Police Department during open counter hours (8 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays) to obtain your Donner Lake permit. We don’t need to inspect your boat before you launch. We also offer a pick-up service for our inspection stickers; simply call 530-550-2323 to coordinate with our staff. Permits are valid for the entire 2024 season but are only applicable to Donner Lake. For information on inspecting your boat to launch on Lake Tahoe, please visit www.tahoeboatinspections.com.
